What is it? Waxing! That said, this hair removal treatment can be very nerve-wracking even for our regular clients. Everyone has some pre-conceived ideas about the procedure and often get very anxious because of a lack of knowledge. Well, let us give you a few of the facts and fictions about waxing.
FALSE: Removing hair on a regular basis will cause it to grow back thicker. The waxing process debilitates the follicle. In actual fact, hair grows back thinner and finer plus the rate of growth slows down. The upside is the more frequent waxing is less painful and it really benefits our clients to have regular waxing.
TRUE: We always discuss this option with our clients but by removing some of those stray hairs on the top can really help to shape your eyebrows into a more tidy look.
TRUE: Waxing does remove some dead skin cells, you really should use a mild exfoliating scrub before your appointment. Definitely plan to exfoliate the waxed areas a few days after your appoinment.
TRUE: Waxing poses less of a risk to have ingrown hairs when compared to shaving. However, if you are prone to ingrown hairs, it helps to exfoliate both before and after waxing.
TRUE: It doesn’t have to be exceptionally long but we recommend at least 1/4 inch long for body hair and 1/8 inch long for eyebrows so that the wax will adhere so that the hair will pull out properly from the root. Do not remove any hair for at least a couple of weeks before your appointment.
FALSE: The short answer – No! During waxing, the skin is held taut and pulling off the wax does not cause any deep change in the collagen.
FALSE: Tanning should be avoided after waxing. This includes spray tan or tanning beds as well as outdoor tanning. The pores are open and the skin is recovering so there is always a chance for skin infection or irritation. 48 hours is the minimum recommended time to wait after a wax treatment.
