Eyebrows are the only bits body hair that has survived human history. Just like our eyelashes, eyebrows wick away both dirt and sweat so that our vision remains clear. The also force raindrops to run down the side of your face instead of dripping into your eyes.
Eyebrows are critical for recognizing one another.
If we didn’t have eyebrows, other people would have a very difficult time in knowing another person. In a recent survey, participant were asked to identify celebrities’ faces with their eyebrows photoshopped off. Guess what? 98% of the participants had no clue who these celebrities were! Wow!!!
People communicate non-verbally with their eyebrows.
Did you know that eyebrows are the most expressive part of your face. Lips come in a close second! Facial movements show exactly how others may be feeling. For example, that one raised eyebrow of your mom usually mean she’s incredulous of the tall tale you just told her. Frowning is a prime example of expressive eyebrows.
How many hairs are in an eyebrow?
The average eyebrow has about 250 hairs. So 500 extra hairs on your face. The individual hairs can vary in lenth, thickness and the direction in which they grow. You know, that one that grows straight up and is so much longer than all the others. Hairs grow more vertically when they are closest to the nose and start to grow outward as they reach the arch.
Do eyebrows need to be trimmed or cut?
The answer is — sometimes. But for the most part, brow hairs regularly fall out and have a lifespan of about four months. In comparison, the hair on your head has an average lifespacn of three to seven years.
Did you know that eyebrows may show personality traits?
According to Marc Fuller, author of Amazing Face Reading, straight eyebrows may show you to be more fact-oriented and direct. A more curved eyebrow could mean that you are more people-oriented.
Older eyebrows?
Your eyebrows will turn gray just like your hair. The good news is that it takes years after your hair goes gray before they start to. That’s when it’s time for an eyebrow tint!
