Getting Ready for Waxing
How to prepare for your appointment
Let It Grow!
Hair must be a minimum 1/4 inch long ( approximately 2 and a half weeks growth after last shave) and No cleaning the house before the maid gets there — Do Not Trim Before You Come! Your hair will rarely be too long to wax but it can definitely be too short!
Ease the Ouch!
Feel free to take Advil or ibuprofen 30 mins prior to your appointment. Because of its anti-inflammatory effects, it can help minimize discomfort during and after your wax. Some people also like to apply a topical numbing agent such as Emla cream 45 minutes to an hour prior to their appointments. Please consult with your pharmacist first if this is something you are considering doing.
Read Your Labels!
Be conscious of the ingredient in your facial products before coming in for facial waxing. Some skin care, especially Anti-aging products may contain ingredients (think AHA’s, BHA’s, Proactive or retinol) that thin the skin and can potentially cause local lifting or tearing. If you are concerned that you product may contain such ingredients, stop using your product for a week before coming in. Better safe than sorry!
The Monthly Gift and How Does this Affect Your Wax?
Waxing is entirely safe and hygienic during your cycle. Just wear a tampon or a Diva cup and we are good to go. Some ladies find that waxing when they are premenstrual can be quite painful due to the raised hormone levels we all experience. Sensitive to that commercial about the abandoned puppies? It’s likely better to postpone your wax until you are in higher spirits.
